Product testing means checking what is in a supplement: identity, potency and contaminants. It is different from lab services, which are diagnostic tests for people. Both live on this site and we never blur the two.

Badges

What each testing status actually means

A manufacturer commissioning its own third-party test is not the same as us paying for an independent test. The badges keep that distinction visible.

Manufacturer Third-Party Tested

The manufacturer commissions third-party testing for this product and provides documentation. We have not run our own independent testing on it.

Documentation Reviewed

We reviewed the manufacturer's testing documentation for completeness and consistency. Reviewing paperwork is not the same as independently testing the product.

Independently Tested

We purchased this product at retail and paid an independent laboratory to test the specific lot. Full results, methods and the original report are published.

Independent Test Pending

This product is queued for independent testing that we are funding. Results will be published when the laboratory reports back, whatever they show.

Verification Incomplete

We do not yet have enough documentation to describe this product's testing. We would rather say so than imply verification that has not happened.

Why it was tested: Protein powders carry heavy-metal risk from plant and dairy inputs, and nitrogen-spiking remains a real industry problem.

Brand response: Demo record: the brand attributed the shortfall to scoop density variation and supplied its own lot assay. We are retesting a later lot before drawing a conclusion.
